RESUME
The article presents the topic of Boris Gonchev, a forgotten photographer from Samokov. The main theme in his photos is the beautiful nature surrounding his hometown, which is also connected to his work on Musala, the highest peak in the Balkans. The main source of information about him and his life and works is his son Bojidar, a painter. Boris Gonchev worked before digital photography was invented, so he mainly shot on various types of film using different cameras that required specific skills, knowledge of chemistry, and great dedication. Sadly, some of his archives are lost forever. In 2022, his son Bojidar donated some of his cameras and equipment to the Samokov Historical Museum, where they will become part of the history of Bulgarian photography. The heirs of Boris hope to organize an exhibition of his works in his hometown, fulfilling part of his final wish.
